FAQ

Starting therapy doesn't have to be daunting. Get quick answers about how Bedrock Therapy works below.

What is therapy? How does it work?

Therapy is healthcare for your mind and emotions in the way that medicine is healthcare for your body.

You meet with me on a regular basis to work through things that are holding you back, and we work together to help you figure out how to be free of your symptoms and how to take control of the ones that don’t go away. Some types of therapy are very formulaic and others are more organic. Some have homework assignments and some have none. The kind of therapy you have depends on the things you want to work on and your own preferences. Everyone’s therapy looks different!

Confidentiality is extremely important to me personally and in therapy in general. The law allows for full confidentiality except in the following circumstances:

  • I determine you are a real and immediate danger to yourself or to another person, including suicide and homicide
  • I determine that you have shared something that is a credible indicator of abuse toward a child, an elderly person, or an adult with intellectual disabilities
  • I receive a court subpoena for your treatment records or to testify about your treatment

That does not mean I will break confidentiality to report you merely because you have suicidal thoughts, or you had a bad upbringing, or you got angry with someone. The “real and immediate” and “credible” requirements in the law mean you can speak freely without fear that I will immediately assume the worst. Your ability to share those details is very important and can be necessary for your healing. Additionally, I will never break confidentiality without telling you first.

Decades of research, and years of my own professional experience, show that therapy will likely help you if you have social, emotional, or mental challenges that you are willing to work toward improving. Therapy is not passive, however, and you will have to be willing to participate openly in sessions and commit to improving outside of sessions if you want to see results.

Everyone’s therapy is different, but it typically takes 10-15 sessions before you begin seeing significant improvement. However, some people only spend a few sessions in therapy and some remain in therapy for years because they find it helpful.

Each therapy sessions typically lasts 45-55 minutes, but they can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 90 minutes. Therapy typically occurs once a week at the same time, but in some cases, it can be done twice a week or even more often.

Each 45-55 minute session at Bedrock Therapy costs $150. Other lengths are prorated, so 30-minute sessions are $75 and 90-minute sessions are $225.

I do not take insurance. Insurance limits the flexibility and freedom that the most effective therapy requires, so not involving insurance means that you are able to receive better care and see better results more quickly.

At this time, I only offer teletherapy services. I do not have current plans to provide in-person therapy but will make it clear if that changes.

Research has shown that teletherapy is as effective as in-person therapy, though it may have a different feel for you than in-person therapy would.
